The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s tennis program will be hosting a junior fall tennis camp on MEA weekend Oct. 15-17 at the Legion Field Tennis Courts in Marshall. The camp, directed by SMSU second-year head coach Jon Parker, will be divided into three separate sessions. The Pee-Wee Junior camp (K-3rd grade) will be each day 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., while the Mustang Junior camp (4th-6th grade) will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day. Both three-day camps costs just $36. The Junior High camp (7th-8th grade) will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. each day with the cost $72. Each camp participant will receive a free t-shirt. Individuals must register by Oct. 5. Several discounts will be offered for camp participants. A multi-family (3 or more), children of teachers and children of first-responders will all receive 15 percent off the total cost. (Only one discount can be used). The Pee-Wee Junior camp will focus on stroke production, hand-toss feeds, racket feeds and live ball feeding. Sportsmanship, teamwork and fun will be an emphasis. The Mustang Junior camp will focus on technique, court positioning and strategy. A variety of feeding and live ball drills will be implemented. Sportsmanship, teamwork and fun will be an emphasis. The Junior High camp will focus on technique, strategy and tactics. There will be an emphasis of fair-play and competitive drills, along with sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. Due to COVID-19 social distancing regulations, there will be no more than nine participants per instructor per court. Each camper will need to bring their own hand-sanitizer and face mask. Social distancing will be followed and there will be enough devices to pick up tennis balls without touching them directly. |
